Find
your voice
Everyone who can speak can sing! Singing is an enjoyable activity that
gives you a sense of achievement and can boost your confidence and self
esteem.
I am a qualified singing teacher, with many years' experience
of vocal tuition and performance. I teach in two schools in North London,
Palmers Green School for Girls and St Mary's, Hendon. I also give tuition
on a one to one basis, in small workshops and in vocal groups. There are
currently vacancies for more one to one students.
Each year we aim to have one large concert for friends
and family. So if you would like to perform, you can have something to
aim for and show what you've achieved.
Your voice is your own unique instrument and I can help
you to develop and make the most of it. Every lesson is structured to
suit individual needs, and you should start to notice an improvement and
gain in confidence almost immediately. Of course practice
is important, and the more you do the faster you will progress.
Individual tuition
Individual lessons are generally for one hour. Lessons are structured
to meet each student's needs and usually include elements such as posture
and breathing, vocal exercises, performance and interpretation of songs.
I teach all styles, including popular music, jazz, classical and opera.
You can focus on a particular area, or try a range of styles.
If you are more serious about taking singing exams,
training towards entrance to Music Colleges etc, I can work with you on
Associate Board Exams and coach in Audition Techniques. The minimum age
to start studying with me is 15.
Workshops
Workshops for about six to eight students are held on a Saturday afternoon,
approximately every 4-6 weeks, from 1.00-5.00 pm. Students usually sing
two or three songs that they are working on.
Are you a star in waiting?
Come and find out what you can do to make the most of your singing voice.
Who knows you may be the next Callas or Pavarotti, Alicia
Keys or Frank Sinatra. Or maybe you are the next star in your own right.
If you would like to arrange tuition, or for more information,
email me with your
details and I'll get back to you, or call me on 020 8343 9228.

Mairi-o-nets Singing Group
The
Mairi-o-nets Singing Group is informal and friendly, and you do not need
previous experience or the ability to read music.
If you would like to join the Mairi-o-nets, just turn
up at Weston Park Primary School, Denton Road, Crouch End, London N8 and
head for the main hall. We rehearse from 7.30 to 9.00pm every Tuesday
evening during term time. The Autumn term starts on 9 September 2008 and
runs until 9 December with a two week break (21 and 28 October). The cost
for the term is £90 or you can pay weekly at £8 per session.
Charity concert
Our most recent charity concert in January, 'Rick's Place', took place
at the Arts Depot Pentland Theatre in North Finchley. The Mairi-o-nets,
singing students, The Grateful Dads Band, Suburban Sax, Jamie Telford
and Bill Telfer, Simon Miles and Mairi's singing students from Palmers
Green High School performed to a full house and helped to raise £2,000
for Help the Aged. Thanks to accompanist Richard Hetherington, the make-up
artists from Barnet College and everyone else who helped with the concert.
It was great fun - watch out for the next one!

Recent performances
In May the Mairi-o-nets once again took part in the Weston
Park School spring fair, where we enjoyed performing for the local community.
This was a fun afternoon, in aid of school funds.
In November 2006 we held a fundraising concert in aid of Children in Need.
The concert was a huge success
and enjoyed by all, as well as raising the magnificent sum of £1,400
for Children in Need. At our first concert, in
July 2005, the Mairi-o-nets and guests presented An Enchanted Evening.
The concert was a great success and raised funds to buy a computer and
software for the Weston
Park Primary School music department.
At
Christmas the Mairi-o-nets sang again at
the annual Christmas lunch for elderly people, organised by the church
of St-Peter-in-Chains, Crouch End.
We have also entertained clients and carers
at St Ann's Hospital in Haringey on several occasions.
There's
lots to look forward to, so come along and join in!
